I'm Alex Oswald and
I’m a photographer born and raised in Virginia, currently based in Richmond. I work with the following mediums: digital, analog 35mm and 120 film, and super8mm film. I value color, romance, and imperfection above all else. My hope is that your photos become treasures for you and your loved ones for generations to come.
When not photographing, I’m hanging out with my two cats (Ivy and Goose), my two dogs (Riley and June), and my hubby, Mat. I’m an avid gardener, tennis player, golfer, yogi, and runner. I deeply love each season and soak up any chance to be outside. I have an immense appreciation for the beauty in the world around us… Somehow this bio started sounding like a dating profile, but that’s me.
Approach
I aim to capture the moment as it happens; In all of the moments’ glory - full of light, full of color, full of emotion.
I’m on a quest to let go of perfection. Perfection removes that feeling of authenticity and personality I crave to capture in my work.
The way that our favorite moments happen - fast or slow, chaotic or quiet - I want this transcend your photos.
I follow the philosophy of documentary photography. I observe, I am present, I capture your experience. For portraits, I may provide direction to bring you into good light.
My hope is that your pictures truly represent you, holistically and authentically, and who you’re with in the moment.
If you ever feel unsure in front of a camera, I will focus on connecting and grounding you in the space you’re in and to your loved one.
I always keep in mind what you find beautiful and what’s true to your story.
